Mobile Number Portability in India – Changing Your Mobile Operator
How to change your mobile operator without changing your mobile number? Do you think its possible in India? Yes it is possible from January 20th 2011. Now any one can change their mobile operator without changing their mobile number, which would otherwise be a big headache. You can do this at very nominal cost and in few easy steps, check out the steps,
- You have to contact the new mobile operator to which you want to switch, just get the porting & customer aquisition form from him.
- Make sure you are eligible for porting your number, the eligibility rules are as follows,
- You have not ported your mobile number for the past 90 days.
- You are using your current number with the current operator for at-least 90 days from the date of activation.
- You can change your mobile operator only withing your current circle.
- If you are a post paid customer, make sure you have paid all the previous bills.
- If you are a pre-paid customer, all your remaining balance will lapse after porting.
- If you are eligible, obtain the ‘Unique Porting Code’ by sending a message “PORT XXXXXXXXXX” to 1900 from the mobile number which you want to port to another mobile operator, where XXXXXXXXXX is the mobile number that you want to port.
- Fill up the porting & customer aquisition form and submit it to the mobile operator to whom you want to switch along with the required documents. If post paid customer also submit the photocopy of the latest paid bill.
- Get a new SIM card from the mobile operator having your same old number.
Porting Charges & Time
- It will take around 7 days for porting your number (15 days if you belong to J & K, Assam & North East areas).
- Porting charges of Rs.19
- Once you have submitted all the forms & documents, your new customer will intimate you when to replace your old SIM card with the new one.
