Tariff War in India – Be Alerted
Feb 26th
With the uprise of new mobile operators in India , tariff war between the biggies and the entry level operators is getting intense day by day. Offers like 0.5p/sec, 1p/4sec etc are . There is no wonder we can imagine offers like Cell Phone free with every sim or Car free with 10 sims. Quite possible if the current rate at which operators are emerging continues. India is a country that is still considered developing, still operators worldwide want to invest in the telecom sector in India. The main reason for this is population. The population reaching near 110 Crore, the number of mobile subscribers in India is reaching half billion. Great isn’t it. There was a time in India when BSNL ruled the country with no other competitors, one had to apply a year before or two for a landline connection, lots of procedures , applications, confirmations and then it was possible to get a landline phone. And today apply for a Airtel Landline connection today you will get it within 3 days maximum that too with lot of offers like no installation charges, free caller ID, voice conference etc. Such is the current situation in the Indian telecom market now. Yesterday when I was going through the market I saw a stall selling 3 sims for Rs.100!!! It was an Sunday Super offer, Airtel, Docomo and Idea sim for Rs.100 together, each sim having excellent offers like free SMS , low call rates etc. The tariff wars may not effect the biggies in the market like Airtel, BSNL, Reliance as they already have a large customer base, but the new market entries like Docomo, MTS, Uninor etc have to fight the tariff wars severely to gain something for their multi-billion investments. One of the revolutionary changes has been bought into the market by Tata Docomo by introducing the new 1sec pulse rate billing which even forced the biggies like Airtel, BSNL to intorduce the same. Tata’s have always been a revolution starters like the Tata Nano, and recently they have also announced Water filters for Rs.1000!! I just wonder what might be the intensity of the tariff wars after ten years from now. Well there’s no other go than waiting for that day. People might get all the domestic appliances free with a sim card!
